As the much-anticipated Kabale 2023 USSSA Ball Games II Championship draws closer, the Uganda Police Force has reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring the safety and security of participants, spectators, and the community as a whole. In a recent statement, the police emphasized their core mandate of protecting life, and property and maintaining social law and order.
“Our mandate, our core mandate as police is to protect life and property and to maintain the social law and order. And for this very purpose, we want to assure you that we are more than ready,” stated a police representative.”
“The commitment to carrying out their duties diligently and effectively was emphasized, giving the stakeholders and participants confidence in the police’s ability to handle any security-related matters.”
Highlighting the importance of teamwork and adherence to agreed-upon guidelines, the police representative requested cooperation from all involved parties. “In most cases, when among the officials they have differences. You know, these are games, these are competitions, at times they have issues that need to be sorted out today and then. Under such circumstances, we expect everybody to be cooperative. Let’s work together as a team, let’s be cooperative,” added the representative.
Recognizing the potential challenges that may arise during the event, the police expressed their readiness to address any issues promptly and efficiently. Their presence and vigilance will be crucial in ensuring the safety of the estimated 6,000 children and all participants, considering the proximity to the border and the importance of maintaining a secure environment.

The championship is set to kick off on July 9th, showcasing the talents and passion of young athletes from various schools across the country. According to the USSSA Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Christopher Mugisha Banage, there is a given number of teams per sport.
Netball has 64 teams in total with Wakiso Region having (7), followed by Kampala (5), Mpigi, Mukono, Masaka, Acholi, Lango and Kigezi Regions each have 4 slots.
Football (U-14) has 64 teams (32 teams for boys and girls apiece). There are 96 Volleyball teams (48 per gender), 64 Handball teams (32 per gender), 64 teams for Basketball 3X3, 24 for Rugby 7’s, 24 for woodball, 24 for Dance Sport, 16 for Beach Soccer, 16 for Beach Volleyball and 16 for Lacrosse (8 per gender).
