Police interfears with Acholi protest

In response to the renewed violent clashes that occurred in Apaa, Acholi land on September 9,  2023, the Acholi paramount chief Onen Acana II led aplanned protest to Apaa town in the disputed borderlands between Amuru and Adjumani districts, expressing dissatiscation over the violent clashes which police stopped.

The protestors aimed at creating awareness to the residents about the  violation of human rights to Apaa residents which needs immediate attention as people died, and others sustained serious injuries from the attack carried out by un identified attackers. This follows along a conflict between Amuru and adjuman districts which has occured for years.

Chief Onen, in collaboration with other local leaders together with the residents had planned to walk to Apaa city but police interfeared with their journey at Pabbo town council in Amuru and adjuman districts claiming that this will cause more choas in the already troubled area.

During the protest, Chief Onen was joined by notable figures such as Kilak County MP Gilbert Olanya, Kitgum Municipality MP Denis Onekalit Amere, and Amuru Woman MP Lucy Akello, alongside other community leaders, and before police interfeared in their protest, they had planned to match from Gulu city to Apaa town, adistance of 70 kilometers.
