Eleven senior police officers arrested in connection with demolition of church building

Kampala police is investigating circumstances under which St Peter’s Church of Uganda Ndeeba was demolished this morning disregarding government directives that stopped all evictions during this Covid 19 period.

According to the statement released by the Kampala metropolitan police spokesperson Patrick Onyango, Katwe police station got information of the demolition at 1:00 am hours and a team was dispatched to the scene, but the police was not informed about the eviction and demolition as the practice is.

Onyango says that by reaching at the venue a team of police officers found people demolishing the said church and arrested eleven suspects.

Among the suspects Onyango say are; Kawooya Mohammed, Bbosa Muniru, Kiberu Amza, Mutebi Abas, Bulega Ali, Matovu Simon, Kalika Ali, Mujuzi Andrew, Ssekitto Badru, Isirinya John and Maruti Bashir who are currently detained at Katwe police station to help with investigations, and to be charged with malicious damage to properties.

In addition Onyango states that police also impounded two motto vehicles that were recoverd from the scene and these are Reg No. UAY 796N canta which loaded with metals, UBG 682Q Tractor/Engineering plant excavator.

“we have also arrested police officers who were supposed to provide security to church properties but failed to do so and these are;

1.DPC Katwe SP Epedu David

2. OC Station Ndeeba police station, ASP Mugira Yeko Kato.

3. Field Force Unit (FFU) commander KMP/ South Region, ASP Isabirye Kaloli. They have been charged neglect of duty” Onyango added.

It is on this note that police warned the general public who are planning to evict people during this period of Covid 19 that they risk being arrested and charged in courts of law if they go a head with their attention.
