Following the recent landfill collapse in Kiteezi, the police have revealed that they are still investigating the incident. Eighteen men, seventeen women, and twelve children have been confirmed dead, and twenty-eight people are still missing.

Addressing the press at the police headquarters in Naguru, Deputy KMP Police Spokesperson Luke Owoyesigire noted that another team has been sent to identify and confirm the exact number of people who died in the landfill. This step has been taken because some individuals have falsely claimed missing persons.

Luke Owoyesigire explained that the search for additional bodies is proceeding slowly due to the rain, which has made the debris wet and more hazardous. Consequently, they need to exercise caution to protect the safety of those conducting the search.

On the other hand, the police at CPS have confirmed the arrest of over 18 suspects in Kampala for unlawful gathering. This group comprises students from various universities.

According to Luke Oweyesigire, the police are vigilant and will continue to maintain law and order, particularly against those who seek to destabilize the country.

The police call on the public to collaborate in reducing crime rates in the villages by reporting idlers in their communities.

This comes at a time when many, especially the youth, engage in reckless activities that lead to conflicts and other harmful actions, contributing to instability in the villages.

Similarly, the police cautioned the public against engaging in conflicts with officers in case of misunderstandings, as this could lead to the misuse of firearms and endanger lives.
