Political in Takekwondo undermine the development of sport, Mr. Kato Akram Ayibisibwe, the president of Uganda Takekwondo federation asserted while addressing the media.
“The politics in Takekwondo undermine the development of sport, because some clubs are rely on the Oktech side, thus created the turn up of the clubs to be low and limits other countries to participate in the tournament, like Rwanda, Burundi and Kenya. But what is good we are expect to sit on the table to solve the issues”, Kato Akrim asserted while addressing the media at Lugogo today Saturday 21st September 2019 in the day one opener of Korea Ambassadors of Takekwondo.
This politics denied us a chance to participate in the all African games because we were awarded by three players by National council of sports”.
“This tournament help to boost the performance of the players and this is the big tournament we have in the country”.
Mr President also call upon the government to support the Takekwondo because it is individual sport and it is easy to develop.
However, Akuna Martin the bronze medalist last year 2018 from Lee club asserted that Taekwondo helps him for self defence.
“When I was still young my fellow students tease me because I was bright and young, but now every one is respecting me at school”.
About twenty clubs participated in the 7th edition tournament and will run for two days from Saturday 21st to 22 and September 2019 at MTN Arena Lugogo.
The tournament participate both junior and senior categories in both men and Women.
Unfortunately, money as a problem in the other federations, its also a problem in the Taekwondo as the President promise to a ward only the champion in each category and the runners up, the best player and the Referee of the tournament.
As the role of the tournament is to strengthen the relationship of the Korea government and East African countries, but non of them are longer participated in this 2019 tournament due to politics in the Taekwondo federation of the two sides of Okotech and Kato.
Lango Taekwondo club are the former champion of 2018 and this year also represented to participate for the trophy.
