Mutungo FC 2-1 NSAMBYA FC

Mutungo defeated Nsambya 2-1 in a climaxing game of the Kampala regional League first round. The game played at Maroons ground in Luzira Prison on Thursday 11th January 2024.

Nsambya FC head coach Boban Tusuubira didn’t go well he puts the defeat to poor refereeing. Nsambya FC led the game through Henry Scot Mutumba’s goal in the 71st minute of the play but the lead was 9 minutes later cancelled by referee Stephen Kimayo when he gave the opponent a penalty kick after condemning Nsambya FC’s Hakim Matovu for handball foul in dead area following a corner kick, the chance the hosts converted into the net by team top scorer Godfrey Ssali.

The referee’s decision was heavily opposed by visitor’s players including Hakim Matovu but he stayed by his call. Seven minutes later Mutungo FC through Tonny Lwanga scored the match winner following a nice play from Muhammad Lubega.

After the final whistle Nsambya FC head coach joined his players and fans contesting against referee’s penalty decision.” for the good of the game I appeal to the federation to look into referees issues, I don’t know whether they need refresher courses, or they are bribed, I don’t understand, but they are killing the game that is why some people are opting to quit football 11 aside for other games like Netball, Basketball Woodball among others, teams are spending big but it’s sad that referees are costing some teams to lose”

The game helped Mutungo FC finishing second with 22 points 6 behind leader CATIDA FC.
