The president of the Republic of Uganda Gen. Rtd. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has on Thursday, October 5th 2023 congratulate teachers upon reaching this year’s teacher’s day.

As a way of reviving and motivating teachers in Uganda towards their work to improve on their passion, the government of Uganda under the ministry of Education and sports has emphasised that they can no longer construct schools without teachers quarters, since it is one of the reasons that has demoralized teachers thereby reducing on the quality of education in the country.

The government has revealed this during the teacher’s day celebrations at Kololo Airstrip where head teachers presented their document presenting the working conditions in which teachers in the country live in.

Speaking to the congregation in Kololo the President of the republic of Uganda His Excellency Yoweri Kaguta Museveni noted that government has plans to increase the salaries of all teachers and other government employees in the country, but the available funds cannot enable the government to do it at once, noting that the government considered science teachers first, and the next step is to consider Arts teachers.

In this document, teachers indicated that many of them are suffering from poverty that they cannot even pay for house rent and other human necessities which has forced many of them to quit teaching and join other carriers which they think can help them to get money to look after their families.

The President challenged teachers to study the social and economic status of the country so that they can teach pupils and students based on the country’s situation so that they can benefit from their education even during life after school. The President stressed that as a way of improving on the teacher’s welfare in the country, he is to contribute 9 billion shillings towards the teacher’s Sacco to help them engage in more developmental activities, thereby motivating them to teach the children of the country.

“On this World Teachers’ Day, I want to congratulate all the teachers. Mukulikeyo! The theme “The teachers we need for the education we want” is a good one, it summarizes the approach we should have.

” The correct approach to knowledge transfer involves three parts which include the basic tools (reading, writing and counting), the study of society and the study of nature which can improve people’s welfare or damage it.

“I am happy to note that educators nowadays are adapting a progressive education system and they are beginning to discuss impactful topics that will change the face of the system, thus leading to the national development of Uganda.

“On the management issues, we shall support the teachers’ SACCO and the private school teachers. H.E. Museveni noted

The minister of education and sports, first lady Janet Kataha Museveni revealed that government has plans of coming up with a bill which will help the ministry of education to regulate the standards of teachers in the country.
