Proline FC 3-2 Maroons

Proline FC picked up their fourth win of the season, after defeating Maroons FC 3-2 in a Uganda Premier League game played on Tuesday at the KCCA Stadium, Lugogo.

Edrisa ‘Torres’ Lubega, Mustafa Mujjuzi and a late Hamis ‘Diego’ Kizza goal gave Proline the victory, while Steven Mukwala and Solomon Walusimbi scored Maroon’s two goals.

The hosts came into the game desiring maximum points to keep alive their chances of survival, and as early as the third minute they were already threatening to break the deadlock.

Bright Anukani’s clever lobbed pass caught out the Maroons defence, but midfielder Joseph Mandela failed to control well as the chance went begging.

Proline stayed on the front foot, creating a couple of in roads, and in the sixth minute, they found the break through. James Begisa’s long ball was pitch perfect to pick out Edrisa Lubega’s run in behind, with the striker making no mistake chipping over goal keeper Hannington Ssebwalunyo.

Maroons got into their stride, venturing forward for an equalizer and created a couple of chances but still failed to break through.

The win improves Proline’s survival chances but they remain on bottom with eight points from 12 games. The side that had six points docked off, still have Police FC, URA and KCCA on their first round menu.

Maroons who had lost their last three games, suffered to their fifth defeat and remain in seventh position with 19 points.

Coached by Douglas Bamweyana, the Prions Warders will host Vipers on Friday at Luzira prisons grounds.

Proline were two up in the 35th minute; Mujuzi scoring from the penalty spot after Ssebwalunyo faulted Lubega in the penalty area to take a 2-0 advantage before halftime.

Mukwala reduced on the deficit in the second half, as he scored his 10th goal of the season, heading in from Abraham Tusubira’s free kick in the 52nd minute.

Proline made it three when Diego Hamis Kizza taped in Hakim Kiwanuka’s delivery from point blank range. Walusimbi made it 3-2 at the death and it was too late for the visitors to snatch a point.

Proline were good value for the whole points and could have scored earlier but Joseph Mandela failed to control Bright Anukani’s cross inside the box.

James Begisa also went close but rifled over the bar while Kiwanuka and Bunjo also failed their chances.

Bamweyana’s Maroons had Mukwala denied by Hassan Matovu while Felix Okot fired over the bar.
