Two teams on opposite paths face off at Red Bull Arena on Friday as RB Leipzig look to build on a 10-match Bundesliga unbeaten streak while Stuttgart are winless in three straight.
RB Leipzig are in second place on 32 points, four points behind first-placed Bayern München. Fifth-placed Freiburg, the first club outside of the Champions League places, are two points behind Leipzig. Leipzig won their last Bundesliga match 6-1 at VELTINS-Arena against Schalke 04, extending their unbeaten streak to 10 (W7 D3 L0).
Stuttgart’s last Bundesliga match resulted in a 2-2 draw against Hoffenheim at PreZero Arena to extend their winless streak to three (W0 D2 L1), putting them in 14th place on 16 points. VfB Stuttgart are just a point outside of the relegation places with 17 matches to play.
The last Bundesliga meeting between the sides, an August match at Mercedes-Benz-Arena, ended in a 1-1 draw. Christopher Nkunku scored Leipzig’s only goal in the eighth minute. Naouirou Ahamada scored for VfB Stuttgart in the 31st minute.
Leipzig have got the better of Stuttgart of late, unbeaten in their last nine Bundesliga matches (W7 D2 L0). Stuttgart are looking for their first league win in encounters between the two sides since October 2017. Leipzig have outscored VfB Stuttgart 16-2 during their unbeaten streak.
The performances of Nkunku have been influential for Leipzig this season. He is the club’s top scorer with 12 goals, which is the most in the league in 2022/2023, four of those having been the crucial first of the match.
Visitors Stuttgart have been led by Serhou Guirassy, who has scored on six occasions, including three match-opening goals.
Hosts Leipzig are unbeaten in home Bundesliga matches this season with six wins and two draws from their eight contests at Red Bull Arena. Leipzig have a nine-match home unbeaten streak (W7 D2 L0) dating to May 2022 against Augsburg. Stuttgart will be looking for their first victory this season in away league matches, as they have four losses and four draws away from home. VfB Stuttgart are on an 18-match away winless streak (W0 D9 L9). The last time they earned a win away was December 2021 against Wolfsburg.
In their last six league matches, Leipzig have won five and drawn one. Stuttgart, meanwhile, have won two, drawn two and lost two in their last six.
