Rugarama Hospital Celebrates World Oral Health Day with Free Dental Services

Oral health specialists at Rugarama hospital in Kabale district have embarked on a campaign to sensitize people about the importance of oral hygiene and encourage them to take action to maintain a healthy mouth as the world celebrates Oral health day.

This year’s World Oral Health Day, under the theme “Be Proud of Your Mouth”, calling on people to look after their oral health for a lifetime of smiles, in Uganda has been celebrated at Mbarara regional referral hospital in Mbarara city.

Bonanza Ndyamuhaki, a dentist attached to dental department at Rugarama hospital said that as a way of observing the day, the prepared a two dental camp since last on Saturday to today when the day has been commemorated having health camps and offering several services that include free dental check-ups, and health talks on preventive treatment.

Ndyamuhaki told our reporter during a two-day camp, most of the patients were discovered with swollen gums and dental decay as the most common diseases.

He advised the public to embark at Teeth Brushing at least twice a day, reduce consumption of sugar, always use a fluoride toothpaste, attend to medical checkups regularly as advised and avoid smoking which contributes to poor gum health.
