Rugyendo promises more money for the UPL in his new term

Arinaitwe Rugyendo has promised to bring more money to the Uganda Premier League in his new four-year term.

The seasoned journalist was voted back as chairman of the FUFA Super League Limited for another term that will see him and a majority of his board extend their rule to 13 years.

The 10th FUFA Super League Limited (FSLL) Annual General Meeting (AGM) held on Saturday 23rd September 2023 at Esella Country Hotel in Kira, Wakiso District,

Persons were elected by the company shareholders as Board of Directors of the company for a 4 four year term from 2023-2027;

The shareholders and other stakeholders including but not limited to representatives from NCS, FUFA, StarTimes and other partners, Media and other distinguished guests attended the AGM.

Rugyendo’s term was extended together with his vice chairman David Sserebe Bunnya and board members Humphrey Mandu Watenga and Ivan Fredrick Kawuma, while Martin Ssekajja replaced Peter Kibazo.

The chairman had trouble explaining why the league is still struggling to attract big money but he defended himself with the two-year Covid-19 disruption.

“The last four years had been epic but unfortunately, we had the COVID-19 disruption that affected everyone, so it is difficult to rate ourselves from what we had planned to achieve,” Rugyendo told media.

Rugyendo promised to revamp the Uganda Premier League secretariat as they increased the budget on marketing.

He said that the league brand has grown over the last eight years and sanity has been restored, which is a positive that can be sold to sponsors.

“We want to reform and redirect the entire ecosystem at the secretariat and strengthen the marketing department. We need to bring in more money from different sources and not just rely on one sponsorship because the brand has now grown,” he promised.
