The Rwenzururu kingdom is in full preparations for the return of their King Omusinga Charles Wesley Mumbere, who has not been with His people for a period of 7 years. He is expected to be with them on 4th October 2023, and Coronation function to be held on 19 October 2023.

The Rwenzururu Kingdom spokesperson and one of the members of the organising committee Godfrey Kyabanga noted that they still have to accomplish some tasks ahead of the celebrations of the return of Omumbere noting repairing the parish which was destroyed.

Godfrey explained that they had budgeted 9 billion shillings for the Omusinga’s return celebrations and buying a new residence for him but as for now, they have so far managed to buy a hotel for Him worth 5 billion shillings.

It should be noted that it is now 7 years ever since the Rwenzururu palace was attacked and destroyed by the army in November 2016.

During that time, Omusinga Mumbere was arrested with over 200 people and charged. Ever since then, the Omusinga has been struggling with the cases and he was not allowed to step into His kingdom not even going beyond Wakiso and Kampala.

Sometime back, the government and the Omusinga went into peace talks and the government agreed to free the people from Rwenzururu who were arrested with Omusinga and they were able to return to their home, and then the Omusinga was given freedom to return to His Kingdom.

When the news for His return got to the people in His kingdom, they planned a warm welcome for Him through a massive function and then to buy for Him a new residence, since the palace was destroyed during the attack.
