SC Villa’s hopes of advancing into the CAF Champions League preliminary round two ended as they were held to a 1-1 draw by Commercial Bank of Ethiopia (CBE) in the second leg of the first preliminary round, leading to a 3-2 aggregate defeat.
The match, held at Namboole National Stadium, saw SC Villa start with urgency, needing to overturn a 2-1 deficit from the first leg.
However, CBE took the lead in the 64th minute, extending their aggregate advantage to 3-1 and putting Villa under immense pressure.
Despite the setback, SC Villa fought back, earning a penalty that Jonathan Kakande converted in the 78th minute.
The goal gave the Jogoos a lifeline, but they were unable to find another goal to force extra time.
The draw meant SC Villa’s return to Africa’s premier club competition ended earlier than hoped.
While the team showed resilience, especially in the second leg, they ultimately couldn’t overcome CBE.
Now, SC Villa will focus on Startimes Premier league, aiming to build on this experience and return stronger in future continental competitions
