SCP reaches Kakira, Bugembe courts

In a bid to bring court services closer to the people, Small Claims Procedure (SCP), has been launched in Bugembe and Kakira Grade One Magistrates’ courts. This brings the total number of courts to embrace the initiative to 97.

The launch was presided over by the Head of the Commercial Division of the High Court, Justice Adonyo, who advised those present to always write down clear agreements when making money transactions, because they are evidence in the small claims courts.

Also in attendance was the Jinja Resident Judge, Justice Jeanne Rwakakooko, who encouraged the court users to utilize SCP because it’s affordable and sufficient.

The OC of Bugembe Police, Ms Catherine Omaido applauded the Judiciary for introducing a procedure where commercial disputes can be resolved without the involvement of lawyers and pledged to sensitize the public about the same.

Litigants in attendance called for mass sensitization of the community in such innovations.

Magistrate Grade One, Jackline Kagoya, who represented the Ag. Assistant Registrar of SCP, pointed out that the procedure, if well utilized, will yield great results.

Also present at the launch was the Assistant Chief Administration Officer, Ms Nakayenze Barbara who thanked the Judiciary for launching SCP, in consideration of the local court users in the Busoga region.

She said SCP will reduce on small money matters that have turned dangerous. “These small money issues that escalate to murder shall definitely be handled, thanks to this initiative that Judiciary has launched,” she said.
