Emmanuel Omoding, the son to the late Patrick Okabe has taken oath to replace his father as the Member of Parliament for Serere County.

Omoding took his oath on February 28th, 2023 during a plenary sitting that was chaired by speaker Anitah Among.

The Serere County parliamentary seat fell vacant when the then incumbent Patrick Okabe together with wife Christine Okabe got involved in a fatal road accident along Mbale-Tirinyi road in December last year.

Serere County residents went to the polls on February 23rd, 2023 to find a replacement for the late Bishop Patrick Okabe.

Emmanuel Omoding, an independent but National Resistance Movement (NRM) leaning candidate won the by-election with 15,638 votes beating Philip Oucor, the NRM’s official flagbearer.

Alliance for National Transformation (ANT)  Alice Alaso, Martin Onguruco came third and fourth respectively.

NRM’s loss was attributed to party divisions as some party members fronted the last Okabe’s son Omoding as opposed to Philip Oucor the party’s official flagbearer.
