The NRM Secretary General, Rt.Hon. Richard Todwong has asked the party District electoral commission officers to remain honest and truthful as they conduct elections.
SG Todwong made the remarks today Tuesday as he interacted with election registrars and their deputies at the NRM electoral commission offices in Nakasero.
Todwong said that “when you handle internal elections well and shun compromise, it will reduce the huge number of independent candidates who return in the final election.”
“The registrars who are indulging in electoral malpractice if caught shall be dismissed with disgrace because they paint a bad image on the ruling party that has led Uganda so well for many years,” Todwong warned.
He added “Discipline among the leaders in the NRM will make the party stronger and attractive for many more years to come,” SG Todwong added.
Given the recent electoral commission roadmap ahead of the 2026 general elections, Todwong said electoral officers should prepare for the incoming party activities like elections of party structures and verification of NRM electoral registers such that they are not caught offside.
The NRM National treasurer, Barbara Nekesa Oundo reiterated that all NRM leaders ought to work with utmost fairness and honesty to deliver the mandate that the party gave them.
“The people chose us to serve them and serve them well. We should therefore strive to fulfil our mandates without fail,” Hon. Nekesa said.
The NRM Electoral Commission chairman, Dr Tanga Odoi challenged the registrars to unite and harmonise all party members, “be neutral. Don’t take sides when there are misunderstandings among some of our members.”
“Always be in office, reconcile and attend to the concerns of our loyal supporters,” he directed.
The director of Mobilisation, Hon. Rose Seninde, Electoral Commission Vice chairman, Hon.John Kigyagi, Director of External Affairs, Maj. (Rtd) Awich Pollar and Commissioner of the Electoral Commission, Hon. Jane Alisemera graced the meeting.
