Soroti regional referral hospital administrators have decried the financial constraints experienced by the hospital due to the outbreak of COVID-19.
These led by the hospital director Micheal Muwanga were today appearing before the public accounts committee chaired by Budadiri west mp Nandala Mafabi to respond to the auditor general’s querries for 2018/2019.
Micheal Mwanga has informed the members of parliament on the committee that there has been late disbursement of funds by government to manage Covid-19 which has led to the hospital to wallop in arrears.
Mwanga says that the company which supplies the hospital food which they feed patients and staff is demanding from them 48 million shillings, staffs are demanding 42 million shillings for the month of june and july for their allowances, they are owed 12 million shillings in fuel.
Mwanga has further revealed that due to the financial constraints in the management of COVID-19 pandemic the hospital was forced to use part of the money they had been allocated to perform the hospital duties to manage the COVID-19 PANDEMIC.
He also says that due to COVID-19 pandemic the hospital need to be refurbished with an intensive care unit, lack an isolation unit, inadequate beddings in some quarantine centers , shortage of blood among others.
