Speaker Among warns athletes from Amus College School ahead of CECAFA Zone CAF schools tournament

The Speaker of Parliament Rt. Hon Annet Anita Among has appealed to the students of Amus College School, Bukedea to remain focused towards working hard and achieving big in life.

Among made the remarks as she hosted the female football team of Amus College Bukedea at the Parliament of Uganda premises on Wednesday, February 15, 2023 moments before they departed to Dar-es-salaam, Tanzania for the CECAFA zone Pan Africa school U-15 football tournament.

“I encourage you to stay focused, maintain discipline and stay away from the vice of homosexuality that exists in some schools. I implore you to maintain good company that doesn’t mislead them from their dreams.” She strongly sounded.

Flanked by the Deputy Speaker Thomas Tayebwa, Among urged the young girls to dream big.

“We always encourage our young stars to dream big and look to the future with optimism” she added before handing over a humble financial contribution (not disclosed to the team).

The delegation of 17 players and 9 officials left Entebbe International Airport aboard Kenya Airways.

Team captain Tamisi Shafiga is optimistic about a brave performance at the championship.

“We have been training well and we thank all our coaches, school management, fans and media. We are determined to do our best and win” Shafiga who was MVP during the Uganda qualifiers revealed.

Amus College will represent Uganda alongside Royal Giant High School in boys’ football.

The tournament will officially kick off on 17th and climax on the 19th February 2023 with the victor not only assured of a slot at the inaugural Africa Championship in April 2023, but also, a cash reward of USD 100,000 (at least Ug.Shs 3,800,000,000/=).

Amus College Bukedea won the Uganda version played in August 2023 at the FUFA Technical Center, Njeru.

The victors will represent CECAFA region at the maiden African Schools Football Championship is slated to take place April 7-9, 2023.
