Sseninde Women’s Development Football cup, 2019 draws held at Nsambya.

 The draws for the Sseninde Women’s Development Football Club 2019 were held on Friday, 09th August-2019 at Villa Park in Nsambya.

The one-day-8 team-tournament which will take place on Saturday, 24th August, in Mbarara, will have two groups of four teams each.

Tanzania’s Kinondoni have been placed in group B of this year’s edition.

The side, will be the first non-Ugandan team to take part in the four year old tournament.

Alongside Kinondoni, Kisoro Girls, Mbarara Soccer Academy and Kira Girls Soccer Academy were also placed in Group B.

For group A, their will be Youth Sports Uganda, St Mary’s Vocational, Kigezi and Mbarara Junior.

The group stage will be played on a round robin basis with the winners and runners ups storming the last four.

There, the winners of group A will take on the runners up in group B while the runners up in A will face the one who tops B, for a place in the final.

Speaking at the launch, Ruth Aturo, the Crested Cranes goalkeeper expressed her delight to being part of the tournament as its official ambassador.

“It is a pleasure to be one of the ambassadors for this tournament, noted Aturo.

“It is always great knowing that grass root football has not been abandoned.

“All i can say is that lets go to Mbarara and support the girls as they bid to kick-start their football journeys.”

This year’s edition will be the fourth since the tournament was started in 2016.

Taggy Girls won the first edition in 2016, organized at Villa Park. Mwandha Foundation and Talent Platform followed suit, winning the 2017 and 2018 editions respectively.

Like it has been the case in the past, this year’s tournament also attracted 8 teams.
Also speaking at the draws on Friday, CEO of the Sseninde Foundation, Jean Sseninde hoped the tournament is a success.

“We hope to have a successful tournament,” Jean Sseninde told the press.

“The girls are very talented and ready to showcase what they have.

“This tourney is about giving them chances.

“And hope they can lead us to the world cup any day.”

World football governing body, FIFA, will also be represented by Sarai Baremani who is the Chief for women’s football.

Lydia Nsekera, former Burundi Football federation president was the guest of honour last year.

Bellow is how the teams were drawn:
-Group A: Youth Sports Uganda, St Mary’s Vocational, Kigezi, Mbarara Junior
-Group B: Kisoro Junior, Mbarara Soccer Academy, Kira Girls Soccer Academy, Kinondoni.
