St. Lawrence University V/C Masaba receives 20222/23 FUFA Beach Soccer League Trophy

St Lawrence beach soccer team today unveiled the trophy they won recently at their main campus near kabaka’s lake. St Lawrence emerged champions of the 2022/23 FUFA Beach Soccer League season after beating Jinja Lions BSC 3-2 in the play off final held on Sunday at fufa beach soccer arena Njeru, this is the fifth time on record and the third in a row which give them a chance to take for keeps.

Dr. Charles Masaba, the Vice Chancellor made the bold confession on Wednesday, June 21, 2023 at the main campus (opposite Kabaka’s Lake in Ndeeba, Kampala) as he officially received the national beach soccer trophy won by St Lawrence University for the fourth year running

“I applaud the members on the St Lawrence University Beach soccer team. Thank you for the diligence and commitment. “As a University, we are focused towards supporting the growth of sports here and Beach Soccer in particular.

St. Lawrence had a good season as out of 16 regular season games played they only lost once and drew once in hands of Makindye Ssabagabo Sand Lions BSC and Mutoola BSC respectively.

Some of the outstanding players who helped them to become champions include; team captain Baker Lukooya, Leti Lubwama Joshua, Brian Nkuubi, Bunyanga Bruno, Kaddu George, Ronald Magwali, Allan Katwe, Kikonyogo Jonathan, Ronald Mutebi , Rica Byaruhanga among others.

It was good discipline and team work which has enabled us to become champions, vice chancellor doctor Charles Masaba states.

As a University, we have a plan to construct a beach soccer field here inside the campus, Peter Sseguya a sports tutor at the University states.

A good quality of players we had, is the reason behind this success, team captain team Baker Lukooya, said.

St Lawrence University Beach Soccer Club first won its title in 2013 and second title in 2019, 2021, 2022, 2023.

This years beach league comprises of 10 teame at the start of the season before MUBS and KJT demoted for failure to honour three fixtures and trimed to 8 team, these include, Makindye Ssabagabo Sand Lions, Buganda Royal, Jinja Lions, Kiringente, Wolves, Grace Church and Mutoola.

St. Lawrence exhibited indiscipline during the league when some their sanctioned for three physical outings after they involved in fighting during their first roung game against Jinja Lions and at the end when they failed to assemble the for the podium photos and other activities as were organised by the league organiser complaining of their of prize money and coach, Davis Nono Ssozi being cheated on the coach of the year award.
