St Mary’s SS Kitende 3-0 Royal Giant High School Mityana

St Mary’s Kitende wins Second successive Elite Schools championship boys football.

The Kitende based School St Mary’s defeats Royal Giant Mityana 3-0 to win boys football at the Second edition of the Elite Schools championship.

Ashaba Ivan scored in the First half and assisted Najib Yiga for second goal of the day. The captain later took his tally to 4 goals to give Kitende a 3-0 lead. Najib finished as tournament top scorer just a goal ahead of his team mate Jowanga Emanuel on 3 goals.

Kitende won last after hammering Buddo SS by 4 goals. To reach the final Kitende knocked out Standard High Zana in semi final on penalty shootout 5-4 after a goalless draw in normal time. Meanwhile Royal Giants reached final after defeating St Henry Kitovu 3-0 in 90 minutes with Oloyo Habib, Kakande Shafick and Bugembe Isa scoring in the first half.

St Henry Kitovu and Standard High Zana played in the third playoff match which turned into the most entertaining game of the tournament to end 1-0 in favour of St Henry Kitovu with young star Kayijuka Derrick putting up the best performance.

Kaijuka posted the most outstanding performance of tournament due to his consistence At the second Elite schools championship St Noa emerged the overall winner winning 3 trophies in Girls Football, Netball Girls and Basketball as Bethel Covenant winning boy basketball.

Mr. Justus Mugisha who was the Fufa president at the final event and the president FEASSSA overwhelmingly thanked his colleagues in education sector for always supporting schools sports and argued them to keep that spirit high.

The president USSSA Patrick Okanya thanked the private schools directors who sent their teams to this years championship for heavily funding their schools in the lines of sports.

“I thank the directors for the private schools, Its different to make money and it is another thing to to inject money in sport we had 25 schools turned up for the championship but 16 out of them were private schools” The Inspector for physical education and Sports, Hajjara Dembe who represented the Commissioner for PES, O’Mara Apita, she said that “the commissioner told the government assurance for further funding sports in schools” It was a colourful event though medals missed out.

It was a colourful event as the the chief guest said although the organisers missed out medals for the winning teams.
