Stanbic Uganda Cup: Police FC Vs Vipers SC Set To Clash In Final this Saturday

Two time Cup winners and current champions of the StarTimes Uganda Premier League Vipers SC will face FUFA Big League side Police FC in the Stanbic Uganda Cup Final on June 3rd, 2023, at Akii-Bua Memorial Stadium, Lira.

Vipers SC secured their place in the final after defeating Soltilo Bright Stars FC 4-1 on aggregate while their opponents Police FC won by the away goal rule.

Ahead of the Saturday final game, a press conference got arranged in line with Saturday final.
While addressing the media at FUFA complex Mengo on Wednesday 31st May, Police FC custodian Angelo Lonyesi appeared optimistic to play against this season’s Uganda premier league Champions Vipers.
Although Vipers SC is targeting their first domestic double Lonyesi has sent them a serious warning.

This is the time to remind football fraternity that we are still relevant in this game.

“Since we are not entitled to say anything in Ugandan football because we are in Big league, a chance to speak has arrived we have to show football fans that we are still there and we are still strong.

Our team is in good shape and we are just getting prepared to represent Uganda at the Continent, I am assuring the public that we can fail to represent out country we are an institutional club and we are well previlaged”

On Saturday we are facing an experienced side they are seeking for the double but I have to remind them that we are once CECAFA champions”
Vipers will have to go into this tie without experienced Defender Murishid Juuko and Alfred Mudekereza who are sidelined with injuries.

At the same conference Vipers SC assistant Coach Richard Wasswa said “we going into the final against Police FC, Police is a strong team which has stopped some difficult teams from UPL, we are not going to find them easy to break but we don’t have a chance to mess.

We failed to collect the double at Masindi, Bul beaten us we can’t afford to miss again”
A final between a premier league side and lower division leagues has appeared on Several occasions with the most recent saw then Big league’s Proline FC clinching the championship demolishing Bright stars from premier league.

Police FC comes to this round after eliminating Apuutun FC, Pajule Lions FC, Ndejje University FC, BUL FC and Adjumani TC FC in the round of 64, round of 32, round of 16, Quarter Final and Semi Final respectively.

Vipers SC on the other hand eliminated Bujumbura United FC, Jinja North United FC, Wakiso Giants FC, Calvary FC and Soltilo Bright Stars FC in the round of 64, round of 32, round of 16, Quarter Final and Semi Final respectively.
