Standard High Zzana, Kawempe Royal qualify for nationals as St. Mary’s Kitende date Buddo SS In the finals

The Wakiso District football giants, Buddo Secondary School and St Mary’s Boarding Secondary School Kitende set to meet on final of the region Qualifiers of USSSA 2023.

The two sides reached final after winning their respective semifinal games played at St Mary’s College Kisubi in Entebbe on Friday 31, March, 2023, Buddo SS through spot kicks eliminated Standard High School Zzana by 5-3 following a goalless draw in normal time.

Buddo S.S goalkeeper Ismail Yiga with a save during the tense and dramatic shoot-out.

Yiga was spot on as he dived to his right to save Moses Lutete’s spot kick.

Dennis Kisiriko, Musa Ibrahim, Yusuf “Hajji” Ssebumpenje, Hakim Kawuki and Edgar Kiggundu scored the penalties for Buddo S.S past goalkeeper Rickson Gubya.

Ahmed, David Mwebaze and Hamza Atakagira scored Standard High Zzana’s only three penalties.

The second semi-final between St Mary’s Kitende and Kawempe Royal College – Bulaga ended in a one all draw and in shootouts, St Mary’s won the day by 4-1.

The grand finale will be played on Saturday, 1st April 2023 at Kabaka Kyabaggu Stadium in Wakiso.

This will be the third consecutive time Buddo SS and St Mary’s Boarding Secondary School meeting in final and the last two were won by Buddo SS through spot kicks.

Six  slots allocated Wakiso region at the national championships to be held in Western Region come May 2023.
