DStv has made a U-turn concerning the broadcast of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations on SuperSport
Africa’s biggest broadcast company, Multichoice, have made a U-turn concerning the broadcast of matches of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast.
The media company initially failed to secure the rights to broadcast the competition after a disagreement with CAF.
CAF sold The broadcasting rights to the emerging Francophone media company New World TV.
Multichoice officially announced that they won’t air the tournament on their sports channels, SuperSport, but have reversed the statement.
Football fans and subscribers to DStv packages threatened to ditch the media company for not securing the AFCON rights.
DSTV CEO Marc Jury said last week that they cannot be totally ruled out of broadcasting the biggest football competition on the continent and have bowed to their subscribers’ threats by opting to air the tournament, according to a report by iDiskiTimes.
