Tanzania recorded maximum points in their latest 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier, claiming a 1-0 away win against Uganda at the Suez Canal Stadium in Friday evening.
Uganda settled on the ball early in the tie and looked to draw the opposition out with cautious build-up play from defensive positions.
Snapping at their heels, Tanzania looked to hit the home team on the counter-attack but struggled to make the most of their chances during the early exchanges of the tie.
Tanzania grew in confidence as the tie progressed and saw more of the ball around the 20 minute mark.
The visitors began pressing high up the pitch and produced worrying moments to the Uganda backline. However, Uganda sat tight and remained calm under pressure.
The travelling outfit ended the half on a strong note and took the game to Uganda. Much to the frustration of coach Milutin Sredojevic, Uganda were reduced to defending their quarters toward the end of the first 45.
Tanzania maintained their level of intensity as the second 45 rolled on and took the game to Uganda with transitional attacks. At the time, the hosts struggled to make way inside the Tanzania half as a result of the pressure applied up field.
Uganda cranked up the pressure as the hour mark approached and looked to infiltrate the Tanzania defence in wide areas of the pitch. However, the visitors looked comfortable in defensive situations and played the ball out with ease.
In providing a constant threat to the Uganda backline, Tanzania took the lead in the 68th minute after a rapid attacking move down the right hand side of the pitch. In turn, Simon Msuva latched onto a pin-point cross played into the area as his glancing touch beat the opposition goalkeeper.
As the referee called time on the encounter, it was not to be for Uganda as Tanzania bagged maximum points at the Suez Canal Stadium.
