The East Africa joint bid commonly known as the “Pamoja Bid”, has won the hosting rights for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations as Morocco took the rights for 2025.

This was confirmed by the CAF President, Dr Patrice Motsepe on Wednesday after the CAF Executive Committee Meeting, which was held in Cairo Egypt.

The biggest event on African soil returns to East Africa after 51 years since it was last hosted by Ethiopia in 1976.

This will be the 36th edition of the competition and will be the very first time it is hosted by three countries.

Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania set out to contest for the rights together with Algeria, Egypt and Botswana.

Initially, Namibia had joined forces to partner with Botswana but later withdrew leaving the small Southern Africa nation to go solo.

Zambia and Burkina Faso had expressed their interest but did not submit their bid books formally.

Meanwhile, Morocco will host the 35th edition of the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations 2025 as the Executive Committee has announced.

The decision was taken during the meeting of the CAF Executive Committee on Wednesday.

Morocco will be hosting Africa’s flagship event for the second time, 35 years after the North African country staged the competition in 1988.

Algeria were the main contenders alongside Morocco for the 2025 edition and then the 2027 decided to pull out of the race on the eve of the CAF executive committee’s meeting that made the decisions.

The Nigeria-Benin contingency also withdrew their bid for the 2025 to allow Morocco go unopposed as they focused for the 2027 rights.

Nevertheless, the committee went ahead and voted 100% (22 votes) for the Morocco bid.

The 2025 edition was stripped off Guinea in October last year after CAF deemed the country’s slow progress could not deliver in time.
