TEAM UGANDA FLAGGED-OFF TO THAILAND FOR PARIS 2024 PARALYMPICS QUALIFIERS

Today, Friday February 16th morning, the seven members of the Para badminton team have been flagged-off to Thailand for the Para Olympics qualifier which will kickoff from Tuesday 20th to Sunday 25th February 2024.

Mr. Simon Mugabi, the CEO of Uganda badminton association said that this will be the last qualifier for the Paris Paralympics badminton.

Simon, went on to say that our mission in this last qualifier is to perform well in order to maintain our rankings.

The seven members team will lead by Ali Mukasa, who will be the team captain and will be assisted by Sarah Naziwa.

Other members on the team includes,  Rita Asiimwe, Rose Nansereko, Sumini Mutesi, Hassan Mubiru and Elizabeth Mwesigwa.

Current rankings ;

Sarah Nazziwa who will represent in wheel chair 1 currently ranked number one in Africa, Rita Asiimwe who will represent in standing upper 5( SU5) is currently ranked number two in Africa, Rose Nansereko in standing lower 3(SL3) is currently ranked number one in Africa, Sumin Mutesi in standing upper 5(SU5) is currently ranked number one in Africa, Ali Mukasa in wheelchair 2 is currently ranked number two in Africa, Hassan Mubiru in standing lower 4(SL4) is currently ranked number two in Africa and Elizabeth Mwesigwa in standing lower 3(SL3) is currently ranked number two in Africa.

The flagging ceremony was done by David Katende, assistant general secretary of National Council of Sports, Annet Nakamya , the chairperson, Uganda badminton association, Mohammed, the head of finance department at Uganda badminton association and Simon Mugabi, the CEO of Uganda badminton association.

The coaching role will be performed by Ali Mukasa, who will act as coaching play.

“Go and perform well, we have hope on you”, Annet states.

Katende, thanked badminton officials for well organization and argued them to continue with that spirit.
