Government and Private school Headteachers under their umbrella body of the Association of Secondary School Headteachers of Uganda (ASSHU) are convening at the East Africa’s Largest school Teso College Aloet in Soroti City for their 2023 Annual general meeting.
The meeting which stated on Thursday 7th September 2023 is slated to end on Saturday 9th September, and the Chief guest is expected to be the Minister of Education and Sports and First Lady Hon. Janet Kataha Museveni.
The Chairperson of the Association of Secondary School Headteachers of Uganda (ASSHU) and the Headteacher at St. Henry’s College Kitovu (SHACK) Masaka Brother Augustine Mugabo said they always hold an annual general meeting to interact with the Minister of Education and leaders at the Education Ministry to share what they have went through and look forward where they want to go.
“We are glad for the warm reception by the people of Soroti, and we look forward to have a successful Annual general meeting,” Brother Mugabo Said
The Host Headteacher of Teso College Aloet (TCA) Mr. Julius Opasso, said he is priviledged to host ASSHU Annual general meeting this year.
“We are here for a common cause, the business community is overwhelmed to host such a bigger population of headteachers.” Mr. Opasso said.
Association of Secondary Schools headteachers of Uganda (ASSHU) is a national body whose Mission is to unify Headteachers for professional development.
Teso College Aloet (TCA) was established in 1953. Teso College is an all-male preparatory school, a boarding school, located in Aloet, Soroti, in Uganda. Teso College ranks in the top 50 in the Ugandan national examinations performance listing.
Teso College was started in 1953 through the initiative of the local people from the Aloet area, with the support of Leo Okol, the Chairman of the Teso District Council at the time. The school didn’t have a name at first, and consisted of only two junior classes.
By 1954, under the leadership of the Teso District Local Administration, Teso College had grown into the one of the largest and best equipped schools in Teso and Uganda.
On 9 July 1954, the foundation stone for the new school was laid by then colonial Governor of Uganda, Sir Andrew Cohen, marking the official founding of the school and giving it the name Teso College Aloet, curently the largest school in East Africa.
