As the country continues to face security threats, the Archbishop of the church of Uganda his Grace Samuel Steven Kazimba Mugalu has urged churches and the country at large to be very vigilant when conducting public gatherings to avoid the negative intentions of the enemies.
This follows allegations that the country has on several ocassions encountered security threats such as bomb planting in differnt parts which is a threat to people’s lives and the country’s security.
During a holy communion service at Patango church of uganda in Agago district in Kitgum Diocese the Archbishop emphasised the need for thorough checks on the entrance of the churches to avoid disruptions during services and to make sure that people who engage in church services are safe.
He noted that the church needs to respect and follow the president’s directive of being vigilant during the church congregations, urging them to be more cautious. He added that when new members join the church, they should not only celebrate their growth in numbers but take an extra step to find out the details about the new members to make sure that they are safe with the issues concerning security.
This comes at a time when the president of Uganda His Excellency Yoweri Kaguta Museveni on 7th/08/2023 disclosed that places of worship are potential targets of the enemies thereby ordering for increased security measures in those locations.
However, the Archbishop has called upon goverment to intervene in the Apaa land conflict to ensure peace and security among the people of Madi and Acholi communities. He has as well arged Uganda wild life authority to try as much as they can to prevent animals especially elephants from Kidepo National park from encroaching to the neighbouring communities and damage their plantations.
The Archbishop who is currently on the pastoral visit in Kitgum Diocese is expected to visit the refugee camp in Lamwo district, Pader district and end with Kitgum district.
