The first edition of the Global Sports Mentoring program came to end on Sunday at Kyadondo Rugby ground, lower pitch with different activities.
The program which started with mentoring former female footballers from different facilitators including professor Agnes Baluka Masajja, who is also the senior sports tutor at Busitema university, Majida Nantanda, former Crested Cranes footballer, Mercy Cynthia from Kenya, Maqulate Onyango from Kenya, Kiraguri Grace from Kenya and Veronica Ofogo from Kenya.
The program ended with playing activity where six different clubs of former footballers took part in the round robin tournament which was won by She Mak which had players like, Lydia Namutebi, Samali Nakamate, Ann Kobusingye, Hajarah Nantume.
The six teams were, Ex- Sharks with players like, Farida Bulega, Wanyana,Memory, Shakirah, Nambafu and Joyce, UCU with players like, Collins Ahumuza, Monica Namwanje, Kyambogo University legends with players like, Lilian Akello, Senior Fifi Wajambaka, Senior Gina Twinamatsiko, Immy Nats ,Owen and Zaki Kalungi, Team Manisa 1 with players like, Annet Nakimbugwe, Team Majida 2 and She Mak.
The Global Sports Mentoring program, is a program funded by the government of America and so far six female from East Africa have benefited in this program.
According to Majida Nantanda, one of the event organiser said that it was a wonderful event because 130 participants participated in this first edition and it will be organised annually.
Maqulate Onyango, who is a sports administrator and a caf match commissioner said this event was organised in order to bring all the former female footballers into one network and appeals Zanzibar and Tanzania to join the network.
Agnes Baluka, said that the purpose of this project is create job opportunities to former female footballers.
Grace, who rans a sporting agency in Kenya said there are alot of job opportunities in the field of sports like coaching, refereeing, pitch branding and photo journalism for former female footballers.
Annet Nakimbugwe, the mother to Hasifah Nassuna ,said that this project will help them to acquire some knowledge which will help them in their life.
