The five year development strategic plan launched by Uganda Rugby union

The Uganda Rugby union has launched the five year development strategic plan today Tuesday November 19th 2019 at Uganda Olympic committee offices Lugogo.

The strategic plan take is course immediately after the launch on Tuesday up to year 2023 which will see the development of Rugby and edge sponsorship from the primary level to the professional level.

The theme of the strategic plan is best on five pillars: To strength the sport, to brand the sport, to increase on the visibility of the games, to create strong relationship between the media and the rugby officers and fans.

Mr. Peter Odong the General Secretary of Rugby union through addressing the media and launching the strategic plan asserted that this plan will help them to fulfill his goals and addresses the challenges that faced Rugby in Uganda.

“This plan will help the union to develop the game and attract sponsors. We are edged to talk with the heads of schools and Universities to allow us to take Rugby sport in their institutions,” said Peter Odongo.

Due to the challenges faced by Rugby community like decrease in the number of players, play grounds, sponsorship and visibility of the Rugby games, the Uganda Rugby union decided to ray a development strategic plan to development Rugby and increase the sponsorship from the grass root.

Uganda Rugby union is to develop rugby through various regions of the Country, Central tier, central, Northern, Eastern and western region.

The objective of this strategy is to reach 2023 while having 600 players at the professional level, pushing top properties to 10 sports properties and top 20 properties in all categories in the country, to mirror the national board regionally by supporting and empowering the sport.

The strategy is also to attract the most passionate people and provide them with the ideal environment to transform rugby and to recruit supporters and empower the Rugby staff to push the quality as speculated.

Due to the challenges faced by Rugby community and reduced number of Rugby players in secondary schools, Universities and clubs , the community decided to create a community to manage and monitor the players at the schools and Universities
