TIME TO LOOK FOR OLYMPICS QUALIFICATION AS UGANDA INTERNATIONAL BADMINTON CHAMPIONSHIP KICKS OFF

Today, Wednesday February 21st, 2024, the 2024 edition of Uganda International officially opened by U.O.C president Dr. Don Rukare at the Lugogo indoor stadium.

This year’s edition will run from 21-25 February and all games will be played at the Lugogo indoor stadium.

48 countries takin part in this year’s championship, these include, India, Spain, Brazil, Iran, Zimbabwe, Germany, Jamaica, Belarus, Algeria, Croatia, Estonia, Egypt Norway, Uganda as the host among others.

According to Simon Mugabi, the CEO of the Uganda Badminton Association, “this competition will also act as the Olympic qualifiers for  Paris 2024 games.

The winners in various categories will receive cash prize money and medals.

“I think this time, its going to be a tough competition since it will serve as Olympic qualifiers for Paris and I wish success to our boys and girls who have represent us”, Don states.

Ugandans hoped to perform well in this edition will include, Gladys Mbabazi, Husina Kobugabe, Tracy Naluwooza and Fadila Shamika in ladies category while Muzafaru Lubega, Expendito Emmundu and Amos Muyanja in men’s category.

Shamim Bangi , is the only Ugandan to won competition and she is no more in badminton after her retirement.

“this time we shall work hard and punish our opponents”, hungry Muzafaru states.
