Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane has reportedly rejected the chance to move to Bayern Munich in favour of staying in the Premier League.

The England captain ended another season without a trophy in Tottenham colours in the 2022-23 campaign, despite finding the back of the net 32 times in all tournaments.

Thirty of Kane’s strikes came in the top flight during a record-breaking year at domestic and international level, during which he became top scorer for both club and country and overtook Wayne Rooney into second place in the Premier League’s all-time scoring charts.

The 29-year-old also scored in 26 of Spurs’ Premier League matches throughout the campaign – breaking Mohamed Salah’s record for a 38-game season and matching Andy Cole’s feat from a 42-match campaign.

However, Tottenham once again failed to end their barren trophyless streak in spite of Kane’s prolific goalscoring, and it has now been 15 years since the North London club got their hands on a piece of silverware

As a result, Kane will turn 30 this summer without having won a major trophy, and he has been tipped to depart for a couple of years in order to fulfil his ambitions of silverware.

Tottenham are fighting tooth and nail to keep hold of their record goalscorer, but he is only under contract until 2024, and there has seemingly been no progress in efforts to tie him down for longer.

Manchester United and Bayern have been regarded as the favourites to prise Kane away from the English capital this summer, while Paris Saint-Germain have also been credited with an interest.

The Red Devils have apparently been handed a major boost in their bid to win the race for the Three Lions captain, as the media – claims that he has turned down a summer switch to Bayern.

The report claims that should Kane seek pastures new in the next couple of months, his heart is set on a switch to Man United, in spite of Spurs’ reluctance to sell him to a direct Premier League rival.

Earlier this year, the striker revealed to Prime Minister Rishi Sunak that he was gunning for Alan Shearer’s all-time Premier League record, which is believed to be the main factor in his decision to reject a switch to Bayern.

Kane has found the back of the net 213 times in the English top flight, 47 adrift of Shearer’s long-standing record of 260, and his total for Spurs now stands at 280 goals from 435 games in all tournaments.

The Tottenham talisman could arrive at Old Trafford as a permanent successor to Cristiano Ronaldo, whom Man United failed to replace in January following his acrimonious departure.

Wout Weghorst has only found the back of the net twice during an underwhelming loan spell from Burnley, and the Dutchman is not expected to be signed on a permanent basis.

Meanwhile, Anthony Martial has registered nine goals during an injury-hit season and may have also played his final game for the club, as the Frenchman will miss Saturday’s FA Cup final against Manchester City with a hamstring injury.
