Two Big Wins For MS Sand Lions As FUFA Beach Soccer League Second Round Kicked Off

St.Lawrence University 2-5 MS Sand Lions

Thrills and distress rocked FUFA technical centre Njeru in equal proportions as the FUFA beach soccer league second round kicked off on Sunday.

A workmanlike MS Sand Lions produced the biggest shock over the weekend, coming from behind to stun four time champions – St. Lawrence in an exciting game for the neutrals.

Despite being depleted, the Saints drew the first blood through Martin Kikambi before Joloba Yusuf responded few minutes later from the game restart to level at 1-1, Ronald Magwali doubled SLAU’s score to give champions a 2-1 lead on the day as they looked like cruising to another routine victory.

But Mukiibi’s men this time refused to lie down, responding perfectly and hitting back at their opponents at every chance that presented itself.

Michael Mutyaba leveled for the second time and Badru Asibuku tilted the game in their favour before Timothy Ddamba and David Balondemu sealed the famous win for their side in the last period.

MS Sand Lions goalkeeper, Kasibante Eduard was named the man of the match as he shown a fantastic performance and maturity in the goal, this made him became the first ever goalkeeper to be named the player of the match in the FUFA beach soccer league.

Mr. Mukiibi told us that he target is to play in the play off and promised show resiliency in the upcoming fixture.

“It has been a long awaited time to archive these victories against the champions and the runs up, we as MS Sand Lions fraternity been preparing for this for more than 7 years, i think this is the right time we get new champions, if all goes well we will win all remaining fixtures as per the opponents seriousness and even when you want to become a champion you must defeat champions. “Coach Mukiibi said.

Kasibante Eduard said that their coach, manager is the reason behind this performance.

” We are yet perform to the expectations, beach soccer lovers should expect more from us as team, mr. Mukiibi is a father to us he always encouraging us to focus.” Team CAPTAIN OF THE day, Kasibante said.

It was the very first defeat for St. Lawrence  in a spell of more than three seasons of invisibility.

MS Sand Lions are expected to return to action on Sunday 21 May 2023 with a game against Mutoola BSC at 03:00pm and against Wolves BSC at 5:00pm.

Grace Church 2-6 Mutoola BSC

Meanwhile, Mutoola BSC also extended their winning streak at the weekend with a comfortable victory over Grace Church that now count five points after drawing at Buganda Royal.

There was also a win for Mutoola, who picked off Grace Church comfortably to claim a 6-2 win.

A hat-trick from Farooq Kiberu, a brace from Sharif Apuuli and another strike from Paul Nsege ensured Mutoola won.

Mulan Babu and Munai Mwanawangu scored to give the Church boys a positive to go home with.

MS Sand Lions 4-1 Buganda Royal

Their frenzy continued even against Buganda Royal, a side coached by last season’s best coach – Tonny Ssebagala.

Joloba was on show again as he and Simon Kizito combined to score a double each to hand the Makindye Ssabagabo Sand Lions the advantage while James Wani scored the consolation for his team.

This was the second win for Tiimu Y’ekibuga against Buganda Loyal Institute this season.

Kizito Simon was voted the man of the match after brilliant performance he exhibited during the game.

Buganda Royal 4-4 Grace Church

Honours were even between the beaten sides.

Dalton Ssewanyana starred with a hat-trick while Andrew Luwate also struck to get a point for Buganda Royal.

Mulan Babu scored a double, with the other goals coming through Chris Waliyo and Owen Ben for Grace Church.

The league action will come back next Sunday,
