Security in Kampala is on high alert after two explosives went off in Kampala on Saturday night.

Major Charles Kabona, the UPDF 1st Infantry spokesperson, on Sunday confirmed that there was an explosion of an Improvised Explosive Device at Mayor Zone, Kikubamutwe-Kabalagala in Makindye Division on Saturday night.

He said that there was another suspected bomb in in Kibwa zone, Nabweru, Nansana Municipality in Wakiso District.
“Lucky enough, all these IEDs did not injure any person. As we have been telling you, there are some wrong elements in the country, the ADF, so we need to be vigilant,” he said.

Kampala Metropolitan Police Deputy Spokesman Luke Owoyesigyire confirmed the incidents and said investigations are underway.

“The blast occurred in one of the unoccupied rentals. Thankfully, no injuries or fatalities were reported. Our team is diligently working to determine the cause of the blast, and further information regarding the next steps will be provided once investigations are complete,” he said.

“While these incidents are under investigation, we urge the general public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities in their communities. Your cooperation is crucial in maintaining the safety and security of our neighborhoods,” he added.

Hajj Shafiq Ali Nsubuga, the Nansana Municipality RDC, says he has issued an order to all bar operators in the area to immediately get bomb detectors at the entrances.

President Museveni also took to X, formerly Twitter, to accuse the ADF of the attacks.

“The other infiltrators, in collusion with some individuals within the country, tried to plant bombs in Kikuba-mutwe, Kabalagala area and Nabweru 2 cell. However, due to the vigilance of the Wanainchi and the security forces, the two bombs went off without harming anybody,” he said.

“People in churches, markets, mosques, bars, etc. be vigilant and look out for strangers. The hotels and markets should have their own security as we had planned before. Maintain the vigilance until we finish up-rooting the Lumbugu in Congo,” he added.

This comes three months after one Abdullahim Kintu was arrested allegedly attempting to smuggle Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) into the congregation at Pastor Robert Kayanja’s church in Lubaga Division, Kampala.

Security also found others IED in Lungujja Zone Eight, Peace Guest House in Bunamwaya, and Mabiito Hub in Nateete.
President Museveni recently issued directives to churches, mosques, and entertainment venues, requiring individuals to present their National Identity cards before entry in the face of terror threats by ADF elements.

In 2021, ADF-linked terrorists carried out attacks in Kampala, resulting in casualties, including suspected suicide bombers. The most severe incidents involved explosive devices detonated at Kampala Central Police Station (CPS) and Parliament Avenue, leaving numerous police officers injured.
