Two killed in Acacia road junction crash

Two street children were knocked dead during a 1 am accident today at the Acacia-Kayunga road junction in Kampala.

“The Police at Kira road are investigating a fatal accident that occurred earlier today at Kayunga Road Junction along Acacia Avenue.

The incident, according to the deputy Kampala Metropolitan police spokesperson, Luke Owoyesigyire, occurred at 1:26 am Friday when a speeding black Mercedes-Benz, registration number, UBL 189R being driven by Faziru Kimera lost control and hit the stationary road barriers.

“The vehicle collided with the road barriers, striking three street children who had sought shelter there. The Mercedes-Benz then continued its trajectory and collided with a white Toyota Mark X, registration number UBF 788K, which was approaching from [Acacia],” Owoyesigyire said.

The incident involved multiple vehicles and resulted in the loss of innocent lives.

Immediate action was taken in response to the incident. The injured victims were immediately rushed to Mulago Hospital, where unfortunately, two of the pedestrians succumbed to their injuries.

Both vehicles involved in the accident have been impounded at Kira Road Police Station pending further inspection by the Inspectorate of Vehicles. Furthermore, all drivers involved in the accident were promptly transported to nearby hospitals for medical treatment.
