UBC given 2.5bn Radio Transmission Equipment-Parliament

The Speaker, Rt. Hon. Anita Annet Among has this afternoon, Friday 3rd February, 2023 donated radio transmission equipment worth 2.5bn to the Uganda Broadcasting Corporation, (UBC).
Speaker Among said that the donation is part of the Parliament of Uganda’s corporate social responsibility, but above all a recognition that the national broadcaster needed to set pace in the industry.
“Parliament of Uganda recognizes the importance of the media as a cornerstone in development and a crucial link between the people we serve and their leaders”, she said.


“We recognize that the national broadcaster is supposed to set the pace for the rest of the industry and act as a demonstration of a nations advancement in the media”, she added.
Parliament had over the years taken a decision to open and operate media outlets as a means to boost coverage of House business.


However, due to delays in acquiring a radio frequency, the Parliamentary Commission took the decision to donate the state-of-the art transmission equipment to UBC.


Speaker Among also emphasized the need for evidence-based reporting by the media, and called upon them to desist from mediocrity and sensationalism.


“We hope that you in inculcate the culture of professionalism and adherence to ethical standards at all times during the execution of your work” she stressed.

The donation comprised of two transmitters, a standby generator, UPS, automatic voltage regulator, band pass filter change, change over switch, equipment rack, antenna System and a feeder cable.
