The Uganda Business and Technical Examinations Board (UBTEB) has released the 2019 end of program examinations results for Uganda Community Polytechnics Certificate (UCPC) and Advanced Craft Programs.
The 15th series of the final year examinations of UBTEB was conducted from November 18 to December 14, 2019.
The results were handed over to the First Lady and Minister of Education Janet Museveni by the UBTEB Board Chairman Dr. Eng Silver Mugisha at the President’s office auditorium.
Honorable Janet Museveni said she had taken note of the poor performance in Mathematics and English and said the Ministry has been challenged to set up more libraries in every part of the country.
The minister also said that the government continues to prioritize skills acquisition and called upon all the partners in the public sector to mentor the young graduates as they serve their apprenticeship in their industries and firms.
A total of 5,251 (991 females and 4,260 males) candidates registered for UCPC programs. Out of 5,251 who registered, 4,895 (93%) sat for the examinations while 356 (7%) were absent.
According to the UBTEB, there was an improvement in the completion rate of 4% from 80% in 2011 to 84% in the year 2019 which is attributed to adequate syllabus coverage and continuous improvement in assessment mechanisms.
A total of 702 candidates sat for the Advanced Craft Certificate (95 females and 607 males) registered and 667 (95%) sat for the examinations from 98 centers.
Uganda Polytechnic Certificate in carpentry and joinery, garment design and construction, block laying and concreting practice and motor vehicle mechanics performed very well with 90%, 89% and 82% completion rates.
Completion rates were low in certificates in food preparations, electrical installation practice and plumbing and fitting with 63%, 73% and 74% respectively compared to other programs.
