Uganda Christian University are confident of finally breaking their quarter-final jinx when they host Busitema University for the second leg of their Pepsi University Football League quarter-final tie tomorrow at their Mukono campus at 3.00pm.

UCU who have are in their fifth season in the competition have never made it past the quarter-final stage for the last four seasons since 2015 having been knocked out by Kampala University (2018), Uganda Martyrs (2017, 2016) and Kampala International University (2015). In their inaugural season in 2014 they didn’t make it past the group stage.

This season however UCU look set to break the quarter-final barrier after a commanding 5-1 victory over Busitema University in the first leg at Busitema. UCU have never lost to Busitema and coach Kintu Mwera is confident that can complete the task of qualification tomorrow.

“The first leg was a very good one for us. We got an even better result than we expected which means that in the second leg we shall be playing with less pressure,” Kintu said.

“However we shall not relax. We shall not take the game for granted and are going to do our best to put Busitema to the sword,” Kintu added.

For Busitema University the game is a mission impossible but one that they will do their best to win.

“It was unfortunate that we conceded all those goals in the first leg. It makes our task much harder on Friday. But in football everything is possible. We have seen teams overturn four-goal deficits before and we believe that we can do it,” Busitema coach Namugenyi Dorothy said.

“The team is in high spirits and we are going to put UCU on pressure. They should not expect the trophy on a silver platter,” Namugenyi warned.
