Uganda Ludo Doves 2023 AL-CON preparations take shape as squad screening conducted

Prior to the preparations for the 2023 AL-CON, the first stage of player screening was carried out on Thursday morning at the Uganda Ludo Federation (ULF) headquarters in Nansana.

The screening process for the thirty (30) players on the 2023 AL-CON provisional squad was conducted by the ULF technical committee and overseen by the president.

Travel documents, health status, screening style of play, pairing of teams, and briefing the players about the different rules followed when playing other versions headlined the meeting. The team will enter training camp on Sunday, September 3.

While speaking to the players , ULF President Hussein Kalule stressed that the federation hasn’t received any financial support from government in regard to the 2023 AL-CON preparations.

“Currently, we don’t have money to travel to South Africa to defend our AL-CON title, but we recently wrote a letter to the Minister of Education and Sports and the National Council of Sports reminding them about our 2023 AL-CON budget of Uganda Shillings 163,000,000 millions’. said Hussein Kalule, President of the ULF, before adding,

He urged players to focus, train, work hard, and represent the country as he talks to the government.

Uganda will be represented by two teams. Uganda Doves (8 male players) and She Doves (8 female players) The travelling contingent will consist of 16 players and four officials. The tournament will kick off on September 27, and it will culminate on September 30.

The team will tour various regions of the nation in order to make AL-CON preparations before departing for South Africa.

In 2021, Uganda beat South Africa to win the inaugural tournament.
