Uganda explains why Rwandan national was shot dead in Kisoro

Security authorities in Kisoro District have said that the 18-year-old Rwandan national who was shot dead on Thursday was smuggling minerals.

Pasikari Dushimimana, was killed while at the Ugandan-Rwanda porous border of Ghetto in Mupaka village, Chahafi town council, about 300 meters on Ugandan soil.

Hajji Shafique Ssekandi, the Kisoro Resident District Commissioner says that investigations indicate that Dushimimana together with a group of unidentified people were offloading minerals from an ISUZU tipper truck registration number UAV 063F while on the Ugandan side heading to Rwanda.

According to Ssekandi, in the process, a group of armed people appeared and chased them away. Later, Dushimimana’s group appeared and started pelting stones at the armed group with intentions of saving the vehicle that was transporting minerals.

Ssekandi says that it is when the group started shooting and Dushimimana was shot dead in the process.

Asked about what minerals they were smuggling, Ssekandi says that security is yet to ascertain the exact type. He adds that the minerals will be sent to a laboratory in Kampala for examination.

He also said that they are yet to establish the identies of the armed group.
