Monday 26th to Wednesday 28th was a busy schedule as Uganda hosting Junior International Badminton Challenge.
Uganda International won 18 medals at the event despite being bettered by Mauritius and India.
Akbar Oduka was the best performing Uganda with a gold Medal in Men’s Doubles, a silver in mixed doubles and a bronze in men’s singles losing his semi to Indian Singh Yohenba in a clash which had high gear at first game where Oduka led to the interval before the it get to level score twice at 12 all and 18 then the Indian won by 21-18 following a shuttle call by Umpire Nsubuga Grace Travor which was considered wrong call by the Audience.
The second game returned with the same level of competition Singh leading twice as Oduka leveling it twice then the same Umpire caused a same opposing noises for another claimed wrong call with the player Oduka also complaining unheard by the Umpire to loose his confidence and the game ended 21-9 with Oduka doing less.
After the event Oduka walked off on positive mood as he stated to media “I have learnt allot at this year’s international and I have realized that Ugandan players we are improving and in coming future we are getting better”
The other remarkable call was Botham Kaweesa winning his first International medal.
The Kibuli SS student won a Bronze medal after losing to over power Douce Lucas 21-4, 21-8.
It was Kaweesa’s second International competition with the first came in 2023 where he stopped at round of 32.
National teams coach William Kabindi also picked positives though he high marked some cases to improve
“Our team players have done their role and showcased some improved performances
Though we still have some issue which we have to work on mostly on girls side”
