The Uganda national women’s national football team-Crested Cranes, got their CECAFA Women Challenge cup of to a staggering start as they walloped Djibouti 13-0 on Sunday.
Faridah Bulega’s side came into the tournament as onw of the favourites and did not disappoint in their opening fixture.
Juliet Nalukenge who was top scorer in the COSAFA U17 Cup a few months ago, scored five of the 13.
Hasifah Nassuna and Fazilah Ikwaput were also immense on thw day as they each netted a hat trick.
The other two goals were scored by Fauziah Najjemba and Amina Nababi.
Nalukenge opened thw scoring inside two minutes and by half time, Bulega’s side led 7-0.
The other five goals all came in the second period.
Speaking after the game, Bulega said that her team will look to score more goals having missed out on last year’s championship because of goals.
“We failed to win last year’s trophy because we didn’t score enough goals and that is something we do not want to happen again, said Bulega.
“I want to continue to improve on that because this game would have ended 25-0 but we failed to convert goal chances.”
In the other group B game, Kenya defeated Ethiopia 2-0 to climb into second on the log.
Up next for the Cranes is a contest against Ethiopia on Tuesday, the same day Kenya takes on Djibouti.
