Uganda through UPBC is blessed To Host the 3rd Africa Boxing Union Convention

Having Hosted two Africa Boxing Union Convention, the Africa professional Boxing Body confirmed to have it third visit in Uganda.

On Behalf of Ugandan community Uganda Professional Boxing commission a member of Africa Boxing Union Convention will take the major hosting figure.

With days remaining to the Convention UPBC officially launched the program which will run for 5 days.

At the launch held at Hotel Africa on Thursday 1 August 2024, Uganda Professional Boxing Commission president Salim Uhuru Nsubuga also the Kampala central Mayor revealed at a press briefing.

“on exciting note we are here to unveil to you for having blessed to host the ABU convention for the second time during our leadership,
The convention will see Uganda tourism boosted and income raise in business”.

Generally it is a 3rd time for Uganda to host the convention and each time we have scored high in terms of economic”

The five day event will run from 18th – 23rd August 2024 with series of activities ranging from ring officials; agents and promoters’ seminar and a long list of bouts at the climax.

The two day promoters and agents seminar will run from 20th to 22nd taking place with Continental title fights comes in follow.

During the seminar World Boxing Council (WBC) and ABU will provide technical facilitators to handle technical issues in the area of Agents and promoters’ seminar and the attendees will pay 50 dollars and 75 dollars for ring officials training/seminar

The convention will climax with professional fights as Maureen Mulangira remarks

“The fights is a platform where our boxers have a chance to write their names at big stage, the fights are going to WBC title the highest rank in Boxing” UPBC general secretary Maureen Mulangira also told the press

As the fights are scheduled to ring of on July 23rd the weigh in shall come a day before on 22nd and around 7 bouts will be on card.

on that nigh John Sserunjogi will face off Egyptian Ahmed Bolshy in Middleweight WBC sanctioned fight while other Ugandans like Isaac Zebra Ssenyange, Joshua Nyanzi and other will have fights.

Talking on the fight John Sserunjogi said

“it is going to be my first time to fight at this event it is a tittle I want to win really and the Egyptian is going to face a very hard time”
I feel blessed that my fight is the main am going to work for it.

Previously Ugandan has managed to win the ABU title including; Badru Lusambya, Joy Vegas Lubega, Abdul Tebazaalwa, Davis Lusimbo, Mike Kizza, Edward Kakembo, Justin Jjuuko and Faruk Dduku, Machoman Kiwanuka, Catherine Nanziri and Latib Muwonge.

There shall also be a regional Super Welterweight title contest for East and Central Africa between Uganda’s National champion Isaac Zebra Ssenyange Jr. and an opponent yet to be identified.

On the same day, Joshua Nyanzi (Spyder) will battle Power Jjunju in a welterweight bout.

The government of Uganda, Hardware World, St. Mary’s Boarding Secondary School – Kitende, ministry of tourism among others are the sponsors for this Continental event
