The government of Uganda through the ministry of ICT has revealed that the population census in Uganda is to be conducted on 10th of May 2024. This comes after the Uganda bureau of statistics postponed the census program from August 2023 due to lack of enough money to take on the process.
The minister of ICT and National guidance in the cabinet of Uganda Chris Baryomunsi, revealed this at Uganda media centre after it was passed by the cabinet of ministers in parliament.
The minister emphasized that this day will be made a public holiday in the country to enable all citizens to be counted, as every citizen who will be in Uganda on that day is to be counted, adding that it will be done in a digitalized system.
It should be remembered that the most previous population census was carried out in August 2014 and a total number of 34,634,650 were counted.
However, in the same committee meeting, ministers suggested that every school in Uganda should make it a condition to have a proper play ground to enable children engage in physical activities, proper growth and to keep their bodies healthy to help them live healthy lives.
Ministers also suggested that government officials travelling outside Uganda should use the Ugandan Airlines while travelling especially in the countries where it allowed to land.
