Ugandans are proud of their performance at Uganda International Series as they grab 9 medals

With a total of 9 medals, Ugandan players were only bettered by Indian players who managed gold medals in 3 categories
Uganda in Men’s doubles through Brian Kasirye and Muzafaru Lubega got the only gold medal with a walkover.

The two had to face Maltase Mathew Abela and Maxim Grinblat who travelled back to his native country Israel after getting information of finding difficulties in returning back since yesterday was the last flight to Isreal due to war in that country.

Fadilah Shamika Muhammad Rafi and partner Tracy Naluwooza lost in women’s doubles to settle for Silva while another ugandans pair of Gladys Mbabazi and Husina Kubugabe received a bronze after loosing the Semi final to the Indian pair which later turned category champions.

Expedito Emuddu and Augustus Owinyi were another Ugandan with their names written on medals list having reached and lost the semi final in Men’s doubles to Abela and Grinblat.

Fadilah Shamika became the best female Ugandan player at the event played from Thursday 05 to Sunday 8th October 2023.

The teenager was the only Ugandan to reach semi final in Singles category as Brian Kasirye lost to Tournament winner Luis Ramon Garrido of Mexico in Quarter finals while at same stage Gadys Mbabazi lost to Meghana Ready Mareddy of India who first stopped Husina Kubugabe at round of 32 and she also turned to stop Fadilah Shamika Muhammad Rafi at Semi final in the run to women Singles Gold medal.

At the closing ceremony of the event which spent 4 action days Husina Kobugabe stated that “badminton is an individual game, I am myself am proud of my performance though there is a lot to work on, for me and fellow Ugandan players mostly in Singles category”
Trancy ” we have earned some points for our Paris qualifying journey that is good, I encourage my fellow Ugandan that we learn from our mistakes at this tournament but we have to be proud of our performances”
