Ugandans struggled at this year’s Kampala International future series despite registering women’s doubles Silva ware which was won by Tracy Naluwooza and Fadhila Shimika Rafi.
In total Ugandan players won 4 medals from the 2024 Kampala International future series that was held in Kampala at Lugogo indoor arena between 27 to 29 September 2024.
All medals came in doubles with the other two was bronze when Augustus Owinyi partnered Hirani Harishni while the other won by Alyaan Mawani and Harshita Singh both in Mixed doubles.
Last year Ugandans performed far better with Brian Kasirye scooping a gold medal in men’s singles, lifted his then partner Muzafar Lubega to Men’s doubles Gold.
In the same race Kenneth comfort Mwambu and Abdul-Swabur Ssempiri finished with a Bronze
Last year Ugandans saw more medals as Husin Kabogabe and Gladys Mbabazi won a bronze in Women’s Doubles which they didn’t get a chance to defend the same with Brian Kasirye despite different reasons.
Also in Mixed doubles Ismail Mungufeni last partnered Assumpta Owomugisha to win a bronze medal totaling 5 medal including two golds.
with the slop in Nadal Uganda maintained second position in the medal bracket, like they performed last year (2023) at the same tournament.
With that performance Tracy Naluwooza, a student at Mbogo High School chessing for her form 6 certificate was pleased with her performance
“I and my partner Fadhila Shimika we have managed to clinch silver in Women doubles however I would like to say It hasn’t been easy”
“We are both candidates so balancing both is not easy, time is not enough in training, due to the situation the second place is good for us because this also the performance was high that of last year.
“Next week we have Uganda International it starts on Thursday and we am going to be available” she concluded
Uganda International series will take place for 4 days shuttling off on Thursday 3rd October going on up to Sunday 6th October 2024.
Uganda International is a bigger events holding 2500 points compered to Kampala International 1700 points in the qualification to the upcoming 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles
