Having taken time to train journalists on Gender responsive reporting, the Uganda Media women’s association (Umwa) held a follow up session on how they have practically applied the knowledge that they got from these trainings as a result of changing their reporting on issues concerning gender reporting.

It should be noted that UMWA has on several occasions trained journalists on different topics and gender responsive reporting is one of the topics that were covered.

To ensure that journalists make good use of the knowledge and skills acquired from such trainings, UMWA had a follow up session with online reporters and influencers on how best they have used knowledge to change their reporting towards Gender especially when using their social media accounts.

While leading the follow up session with journalists at UMWA premises in Kisaasi, the Umwa communications and Advocacy officer Brenda Namata appreciated journalists for applying the knowledge they get from the trainings and urged them to continue changing the face of media towards Gender reporting.

Brenda revealed some of the activities UMWA has taken part in during their survey to see training knowledge and skills being put into order and one of the activities is visiting different online media platforms/ houses to prove through meeting media managers who gave them a positive feed back.

During the training, they talked about the challenges journalists face as they put the training skills in practice and discussed the solutions to be used to overcome the challenges for the good of the audiences that they target during their trainings.
