Uganda National teachers Union ( UNATU ) is concern over delayed government intervention on the continued commercialization education

According to UNATU has not only locked out vulnerable children from accessing education but has also affected the quality of education especially in public schools

Kampala and the surrounding districts are on the top list of districts where education has been highly commercialized both in private and public schools

This has also given rise to high examination malpractice, and decline in the quality of education standards according to the UNATU survey

Uganda being a signatory to the sustainable Development goals committed to ensuring inclusive and equitable education and promotion of longtime learning

UNATU thinks that commercialization and privatization of education is becoming a threat to the right of quality education for majority learners

Baguma says this is most likely to completely sink the education sector, a glory that might be hard to reverse

However in the recommendations UNATU has called upon government to take charge in regulating privately own and government aided schools, enhance teachers salaries equally, among others.

The commissioner of education…. says government is yet to come up with modalities of regulation of school dues in accordance with education policies

Quality education to all learners still remains a mandate of government.

  1. 1.Government should enhance salaries for all categories of teachers without discrimination.
2.Government should take full responsibility to provide quality education to all learners.

  2. Right salary enhancement for all categories of teachers , provision of quality education through mobilising parents to take their full responsibility,

  3. It will be very tricky and for government to regulate the education system in this country because most of these massrooming private schools are owned by the policy makers and implementers in government. Today in Uganda 🇺🇬 what the schools compete for is the passing of examinations but not the delivery of curriculum that helps to equip the learners with knowledge that can lead to innovation and self reliance.

    • Enhancement of salaries and strictly curbing access to final exams will push the education system of Uganda to a better position.Otherwise, we still have a long way to go.
