UPC candidate wins Dokolo Woman by-election

The Uganda People’s Congress (UPC) candidate has been declared winner of the Dokolo Woman Parliamentary by-election.

According to results released by the Electoral Commission on Thursday evening, UPC’s Sarah Aguti Nyangkori got 23,044 votes, beating her closest rival, Janet Adongo of NRM, who scored about 14,001 votes.

The election was contested by the deceased MP Cecilia Ogwal’s daughter, Dr Rosemary Alwoch Ogwal, running on FDC ticket, who scored 8,168.

Both Ms Adongo and Ms Aguti had lost to late Ogwal in the 2021 parliamentary election

Others are Dr Esther Akullo Obot Otada (790 votes) and Ms Rebecca Arao (439 votes), all independents.

Ms Harriet Ageno of National Unity Platform (NUP) got 727 votes.
